Object: Three People Forcibly Removed From Bush "Town Hall" Meeting on SocialSecurity
As President Bush continues touring the country to promote his plans for
overhauling social security, some have begun to ask questions about the
costs and the procedures determining who is permitted to attend these
publicly funded events. Yesterday, an article in the Washington Post
reported that this tour may be one of the most expensive in memory,
costing millions of tax-payer dollars.
Representative Henry Waxman, the ranking Democrat on the Government
Reform Committee, wrote a letter to the Government Accountability
office, asking for the exact cost of the tour and questioned whether the
administration had crossed the line from education to propaganda.
Waxman's letter stated in part: "There is a vital line between informing
the public as the President did in his State of the Union address, and
commandeering vast resources of the federal government to fund a
political campaign for social security privatization."
Another member of Congress, Rep. Diana Degette, has requested that that
the House Government Reform Committee investigate the exclusion
procedures at these events. In North Dakota and Arizona, people
expressing contrary political views were denied access to the Bush
events. The latest incident happened on March 21st in Denver where three
Coloradoans were ejected from President Bush's social security town hall
meeting.

This is nothing new - it's been going on since he took office. Anywhere
Bush is there's a "No Free Speech" zone.

This article sure does sound this way ;)

Another member of Congress, Rep. Diana Degette, has requested that

that

the House Government Reform Committee investigate the exclusion
procedures at these events. In North Dakota and Arizona, people
expressing contrary political views were denied access to the Bush
events.

If some people have contrary political views why do they want to come?
- to heckle and disrupt the president? I believe so. Why should they
be allowed in and this article gives no details - so any definitive
judgment can be correct.

The latest incident happened on March 21st in Denver where three
Coloradoans were ejected from President Bush's social security town

hall

meeting.

....were they part of the recent wave of pie-throwing facists that have
hit this country of recent? This article gives no details and sounds as
another hit piece by a full on lefty-no-winged media outlet.
lol.
I remember Clinton having people arrested, especially that guy and his
family in Chicago.

So in your opinion, throwing a harmless (maybe embarrassing) pie makes you a
'fascist', yet denying people their right to protest is all good?
Can YOU see the disconnect in that logic? You are funny Mickey Mouse.

There are limits to speech. Disorderly conduct is not covered by the
First Amendment.

Denying people their right to hold an orderly town hall meeting is not
good. Those protesters did not loose their right to protest. They just
had to take it outside.

Yes, I do see the disconnet in your logic.

There are limits to speech. Disorderly conduct is not covered by the
First Amendment.

So what disorderly conduct had they been engaging in? If I'm not mistaken,
they didn't even get a chance to sit down, let alone disrupt Bush's
propaganda session. How do you know they weren't simply going to ask Bush a
difficult question when given their due turn? I think this is why they were
removed: to aliviate the risk of Bush being made to look like the bumbling
moron he is.
That's fairly totalitarian, no matter how you try to spin it.

They hadn't acctually done anything wrong. They were singled out because of
their alledged political alignment. The fact that they didn't carry out a
protest once outside, reinforces my view that they probably were going to
just sit there and ask Bush tough questions.
Guilty until proven innocent?

Can YOU see the disconnect in that logic?

There was no mention of them actually being disorderly. IIRC, the
"disorderly conduct" charges that that Bush camp uses to get rid of
people who manage to slip through the careful screening and ask
embarassing questions (instead of the scripted ones) never stick.

Throwing a pie in someone's face is assault. That's a whole different
ballgame from talking.

If no (physical) injury was intended or inflicted,
the Courts often consider it a political free speech issue.

Really? Hmm ... I would say I disagree with that. It knocks you off
balance, so you could fall over, and with your mouth and nose covered,
you can't breathe. So, like I said, I consider it a whole different
ball of wax, myself. I'd probably defend myself.

They're likely just Canadian Facists on vacation.
The Canadian Prime Minister caught one in the kisser and the premier of
Alberta caught one too.
