Here's a quick summary of the story: Registered Sex Offender No. 1, a
one-legged martial arts expert, was not happy to discover that his
estranged wife, Registered Sex Offender No. 2, was exposing their two
young daughters to her new boyfriend, Registered Sex Offender No. 3.
Police say Registered Sex Offender No. 1 ended up stabbing Registered Sex
Offender No. 3 with a sword.
Now here's the backstory: Willie Tarpley Jr. and his wife, Jacqueline,
were convicted of sexual torture in 1988 after they kidnapped a
21-year-old woman in Fort Lauderdale, according to the St. Petersburg
Times. Reports say Willie was concerned for the safety of their daughters
after he learned that Jacqueline's new live-in boyfriend, Lee Alexander,
was convicted in 2000 of committing a lewd act against a minor.
Investigators say Willie went to his wife's house and used his door opener
to enter the garage, where he found Alexander's vehicle and armed himself
with a 42-inch Katana sword from his collection of weapons. Then, they
say, he entered the residence and confronted the couple.
Here's what happened next, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's
Office:
Tarpley while holding his 15-month-old daughter put the sword to Alexander's
neck and threatened to cut his head off. Tarpley then turned the sword on
his wife and threatened her, telling her not to defend Alexander. Tarpley
ordered Alexander to leave the residence, as he did not want him around
his two children (ages 3 and 15 months). As Alexander was backing out of
the garage he backed his vehicle into Tarpley's corvette. Tarpley walked
up to the vehicle and stuck the sword into the window of Alexander's
vehicle.
Alexander then exited his vehicle and attempted to flee on foot, but
collapsed in the roadway where he expired. Tarpley left the residence with
his 15-month-old daughter but returned as deputies were arriving.
"He was crying," a witness tells The Tamba Tribune. "He was very
remorseful."
The sheriff's report doesn't say how Alexander died, but one published
report says he was stabbed in the armpit. Willie is being held without
bail. He faces murder and assault charges.
