Kissinger: Iraq Military Win Impossible

Military victory is no longer possible in Iraq, former Secretary of
State Henry Kissinger said in a television interview broadcast Sunday.
Kissinger presented a bleak vision of Iraq, saying the U.S. government
must enter into dialogue with Iraq's regional neighbors - including
Iran - if progress is to be made in the region.

Iraqi Deputy Minister Kidnapped
By Mussab Al-Khairalla
BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Gunmen in camouflage uniforms kidnapped Iraq's
deputy health minister from his home on Sunday, the day after another
prominent Shi'ite politician was shot dead amid brewing sectarian
strife.
It was the latest incident over the past week that cast doubt on the
loyalties of Iraq's U.S.-trained security forces and came as the Syrian
foreign minister flew in for talks likely to focus on aid reaching
militants through Syria.

Cheney Rejects Idea Of Iraq Withdrawal
He Also Decries 'Judicial Overreaching'

In his first public statements since the midterm elections, Vice
President Cheney yesterday rejected calls for a military withdrawal
from Iraq, telling a group of conservative lawyers that retreat would
disappoint America's allies and embolden terrorists.
"To get out before the job is done would convince the terrorists once
again that free nations will change our policies, forsake our friends
and abandon our interests whenever we are confronted with violence and
blackmail," Cheney told members of the Federalist Society, gathered in
Washington for their national convention.

McCain says more troops needed in Iraq
By JOHN HEILPRIN, Associated Press Writer

Sen. John McCain (news, bio, voting record), a front-runner among GOP
presidential contenders for 2008, said Sunday the U.S. must send an
overwhelming number of troops to stabilize Iraq or face the possibility
of more attacks in the region and on American soil.
"I believe the consequences of failure are catastrophic. It will spread
to the region. You will see Iran more emboldened. Eventually, you could
see Iran pose a greater threat to the state of Israel," said McCain,
R-Ariz.

Quite a world ... can't win, can't leave, dig the hole deeper meanwhile
Iraq continues to spiral into chaos and the U.S. Administration has no
plan or is clinging with a death-like grip to a failed plan.
I just bought 'State Of Denial' a couple of days ago -- interesting
book. The first few chapters lay much of the planning (and exclusion of
the State Dept, NSC. and CIA from the planning process) on Rumsfeld's
lap. Bush was aware of this.
Anyhow, enjoy your Sunday.
Cheers!

I'm surprised Kissinger would say this. Just this past week
Bush reiterated "we'll win if we don't quit", and this is the
ideology Kissinger has been feeding Bush. Perhaps it's some
sort of ploy to placate the anti-war crowd whose ideas are
becoming more popular, you know, buy Bush more time. Kissinger
definitely is a strategist, and he lived through the first
version of this whole scenario, the Vietnam War. Kissinger
believes we lost Vietnam because we quit too soon.

Left too soon? Almost 60,000 U.S. troops killed and over a decade of
combat -- and he considers that to be too soon?
What was the cost of defeat? What would the cost of victory have been
and who's lives would have been worth that cost?
As in Iraq, who's paying and what are the costs of victory and defeat?
It seems political leaders who've never been in a bar fight let alone
combat become blinded to the greater reality of life. They ignore or
rationalize the human costs of their decisions.
Bush was and still is under-qualified for the task he was 'chosen' for.
Cheers!

I agree, and some politicians are different than others. I can
really relate to the kind of decision Clinton made in putting the
big hurt on the Serbs after they started their Kosovo campaign.
We were essentially alone in the decision to start a major bombing
campaign and killing tens, even hundreds of thousands of Serb
soldiers, but very few people accused Clinton of 'foreign adventurism.'
To his credit, Clinton put no US boots on the ground in Kosovo.
....
I still think this statement by Kissinger might be some kind of
strategic ploy.
Bush was and still is under-qualified for the task he was 'chosen' for.

It gets better. Charley Rangle (D, NY) is going to introduce legislation to reinstate the Draft when Congrease strats its next session in January.
Well, come on all you big strong men,
Uncle Sam needs your help again.
Got his ***** in a crack real bad,
way down yonder in old Baghdad.
So put down you books and pick up a gun,
we're gonna have a whole lotta fun!
If you want to stop war, you gotta sing LOUD!
with apologies to Country Joe McDonald...

sort of idea could eliminate lots of the politicians. Maybe that what

Bitchin' heirarchies everywhere! There's one in Heaven, one in Hell,
we're told. And there's Karma (repeatedly back to the physical plane of
heirarchies). However, there aren't any elections in the ethereal
worlds--a political process that may be analogous to my concept of
perpetual suicide or, if you're correct, perpetual futility.
Is there no real escape, no true peace of mind, no nirvana??
Am I trapped like a wounded, sufferin' animal, forever condemned to the
manipulations of tyrannical rulers in both the physical and ethereal
worlds??
Another option is that you could just ignore them....!
Mommaaaaa~~!! What a bloody nightmare!! (*sob*) Benjamin Franklin,
Thomas Jefferson, John Hancock, et al...what the hell were those guys
tryin' to accomplish, damnit??!! (*sob*) Was it all in vain??
Tear-soaked,
Yours truly,

Kissinger: Iraq Military Win Impossible
By TARIQ PANJA, Associated Press Writer

By Michael Abramowitz and Spencer S. Hsu

16 minutes ago

Cheers!

If you blow your brains out and you end up in Hell chances are you'll
be surrounded by politicians ... and not just as a special favour by
the Devil to make your stay more miserable.
An interesting concept tho -- a government free country.
