IMO, too busy. Reduce the number of colours and move the drop shadow

Without a doubt, I'd say that's the top story on your site.

show me an ugly looking, misaligned heap of links and text.
You used MS frontpage to create the site, didn't you Michael? As a

Well as a Webber you should have a good clue - seen others with themes?

Yeah, Michael is shitty at everything... but I am not sure if this
multiple browser thing surfacing up again is a good thing. I had Firefox
beta on my computer about 6-7 months before version 1 came out. Used it
from time to time, but went back to IE after a little while. The feel
just wasn't there. When version 1 came out, I figured give it a shot
again. Installed it the first week that it was out. Same thing... tried
it for a while, went back to IE, tried again, back to IE... Firefox has
a cold feel to it. Kind of like Netscape, but even colder. It's like

I beg to differ...
I had Firefox beta on my computer about 6-7 months before version 1 came
out. Used it from time to time, but went back to IE after a little while.
The feel just wasn't there. When version 1 came out, I figured give it a
shot again. Installed it the first week that it was out. Same thing...
tried it for a while, went back to IE, tried again, back to IE... Firefox
has a cold feel to it. Kind of like Netscape, but even colder.
Well, I don't think the look and feel are the major proponent of it's
growing popularity. The real draw card of Firefox is that it simply isn't
as vulnerable to spyware/adware... This is mostly just because it is not
targeted as much as IE, as I'm sure there are security holes in it waiting
to be exploited. So there's the fact that you can browse to certain pages
with confidence that you will not have spyware forced onto your hard-drive,
and also the built-in pop-up blocker (which yes, IE now has... Firefox has
had it for a long time though... typical MS playing catch-up and calling it
innovation...), as well as tabbed browsing, which IMO is the best thing
since Mosaic... In any event, if you don't like the look of Firefox, you
can always grab a theme to make it prettier:
https://addons.update.mozilla.org/themes/?os=nt&application=firefox
Another major gripe I have with IE, is that it isn't standards compliant...
I can create 100% standards compliant pages that look great in Firefox, but
are substantially messed up in IE... here's a page I made while playing
around with some concepts in a book I read (Eric Meyer is great), it looks
nice in Firefox, but IE screws up the transparancy effects...
http://ssl.linknet.com.au/aidan/sakura/
So a side effect of the competition that Firefox brings to the table against
IE, is that MS may be forced to comply with W3C standard for once...
Currently, MS is creating their own "standards", and this is what makes the
web-broken... not having multiple browsers to cater for... multiple browsers
would be fine if they all adhered to the standards. Admittedly, some of the
proprietry MS extentions are quite handy, but they really don't help to
unify the web accross all platforms, and that is why I believe IE is evil.
It's like driving a Lada, a car manufactured by the Godless Communists.
Come to think of it, this whole idea of open source has communist roots...

Communisim isn't bad an evil concept... just most of the implementations
we've witnessed in history have been failures due to corruption. The reward
system of open source is the software itself... If I create a bug-fix or new
feature for an open source application, that is my 'payment', if you will,
to the community that allows me to use and improve the software they've
collectivly created.
There are some major corporate backers of open source software these days,
most notably IBM, Novell and Intel... I would hardly call _them_ communists!

I agree, that kind of "if it aint free, I'll steal it" mentality does plague
certain fragments of the FOSS community...
But, when _I_ say free, I'm talking about it in the sense of 'libre', not
'gratis'... while zero cost software makes me happy, I don't mind having to
pay for quality software, regardless of the license attached... though
having the option to modify the program's code is a big plus when comparing
2 competing products... Though by all means, not all open source software
is non-comercial, just look at Redhat... their stock price is amazing, given
their whole business revolves around a software technology they don't
control.

Well, Redhat employs many programmer's and all of what they produce, as far
as the Linux kernel is concerned, is usable by other companies, like IBM and
Novell, who abide by the GPL...
To be honest, I can't extrapolate a logical conclusion for OS... simply
because nothing like it had existed until the GPL came along (BSD is a type
of open source licence, but it was the GPL that ignited the current
revolution we're seeing)... But just think, if scientists of the 19th
century (and before) had kept their discoveries and ideas secret, in the
same fashion that proprietry software companies do with their code today,
would computers, or telephones or cars exist today? I would guess probably
not... at least not as commodities
The way I see it, the IT industry is headed in 1 of 2 directions:
- the MS way: hardware will be as good as free, software will be what you
pay for
- the IBM way: software will be as good as free, hardware will be what you
pay for
IMO, the only logical option is the IBM way... because one day, in the
distant future, the only software that will need to be written from scratch
will be games. In an IBM future, programmers will have a vast pool of open
libraries on which to base thier programs. In an MS future, you will need a
license to use an "if{}" statment in your /etc/rc.d/rc.local script.

Software Communism vs. Software Dictatorship... I know which one I choose...
That's a very prolific analogy of the actual situation, and a very
accurate one, I might add. If computer industry follows what happened in
politics, Dictatorship will be the ultimate victor. There is however
another angle to all of this, and that is what will happen to the
content. After all, the whole of computer industry, both hardware and
software revolves around processing information. Text, image, sound,
video.... all this stuff that contains some kind of information needs
software and hardware to be used. There is a lot of information
available for free now, but tons of it is already only available through
paid services. And as we move forward, we see more and more content
having a price tag attached to it. So perhaps at some point, we will see
the price of software and hardware included right into content. You want
to see/read/hear something, you just pay for it. The content providers
will pay a commission to the hardware/software companies who will be
acting as vehicles between content providers and content consumers. Good
old capitalism in action!
