Transdnestr parliamentary speaker: Decision on Kosovo should set
example for Transdnestr and other conflicts settlement
Chairman of the Transdnestr Moldavian Republic Yevgeny Shevchuk
commented on the statement made by Russian President Vladimir Putin on
the Kosovo conflict settlement made at a meeting with the Cabinet of
Ministers:
"We in Transdnestr are closely observing the events around Kosovo,
because any decisions of the international community on Kosovo are the
algorithm for future decisions on the Transdnestr-Moldavian issue. The
situation in Kosovo has a lot of analogies with Transdnestr. In
particular, the history of the collapse of Yugoslavia is in some points
corresponding with the history of disintegration of Moldavia and
Transdnestr. The agreements passed on Serbia and Montenegro, Bosnia and
Hercegovina, and the way the situation in Kosovo develops - all this
should lay the basis for settlement of the Moldavian-Transdnestr
situation.
"As for the statement made by Deputy Assistant Secretary for Europe
and Eurasian Affairs Rosemary DiCarlo about the unique nature of the
situation in Kosovo and the ways of the settlement, I think, that
despite the peculiarities of this or that situation, the international
community must elaborate unified principles and approaches towards such
situations in the world. If this does not happen, there will become
more unsettled conflicts. So, we sincerely hope that the scheme that
will be applied in Kosovo will set an example for the settlement of the
Moldavian-Transdnestr conflict and other analogous conflicts.
"In this situation, I treat the effort of Moldavia to initiate
economic blockade of Transdnestr through an agreement with the
Ukrainian government on customs registration in Moldavia of Transdnestr
goods crossing the Ukrainian border as willingness to oppress the
Transdnestr Moldavian Republic before the international community makes
a decision on Kosovo and, accordingly, before such a decision is made
on Transdnestr."
