Trojan poses as news about bin Laden capture

California-based anti-virus software company PandaLabs says it has detected
a trojan which comes to users as a spam message claiming to give information
on the "capture" of Osama bin Laden.
The company warned in a media release that the message tried to get the
recipients to visit an advertising page and downloaded a trojan to their
computers if the embeded URL was clicked.
Panda said the message could make recipients think it had been sent by the
BBC or CNN. The subject says, "Osama Bin Laden Captured" and the message
text says, "Hey, Just got this from CNN, Osama Bin Laden has been captured!
Goto the link below to view the pics and to download the video if you so
wish: (Internet address) 'Murderous coward he is'. God bless America!".
The release said if the link is activated via IE, the browser auto-executed
a file called "EXPLOIT.EXE" and downloaded an executable trojan, identified
as "Trj/Small.B". The fake news item, promising photographs and video of bin
Laden's capture, first appeared on instant messaging networks earlier this
month.
It said the "Small.B" trojan opened ports on an infected machine and could
be used to hijack PCs for use as spam zombies. The trojan can listen on an
open port for instructions and redirects traffic to other IP addresses.
