Crossfire War - Turkey PM Announces Invasion After July 22
By Willard Payne
Crossfire War - Ankara - Damascus - Teheran Watch - West Asia Theatre:
Ankara - Damsacus - Teheran - Riyadh - Baghdad/Mosul - Kirkuk - Erbil
- Sulaymaniyah - Baghdad - Washington - London; Turkey PM States
Invasion of N Iraq to Take Place After July 22 Elections - Guns of
August - Dividing The Enemy
Night Watch: ZAKHO - "Unless you (the U. S. and Iraq) fulfill your
obligations to counter the (separatists) Kurdistan Workers Party
(PKK), then we will do it. Exactly what we will do is well known."
That was a quote over the Turkish television station NTV by Turkey
Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan. He continued his ultimatum by re-
stating Ankara's premeditated decision and strategy, "A cross-border
operation may be included on the agenda after the election."
Preparations for this invasion became more obvious last month as
Ankara has mobilized perhaps as many as a quarter of a million troops
in staging areas like: Sirnak-Mardin-Siirt, towns in Turkey's
southeast and not far from Iraq's northern border. That is almost
twice the number of worn out; exhausted units the UK/US have in the
country. [RIA]
Unlike the occupation led by the lost alliance of London-Washington,
Ankara's invasion will not only have regional understanding from every
Islamic capital, but also cooperation, military support, because no
Islamic government in the area would ever be comfortable with a
powerful Kurdistan community, especially not Damascus - Teheran. Both
Syria and Iran have long and recent histories of problems with Kurdish
communities demanding at least autonomy, Kurdish groups in Syria's
east and in Iran's northwest just across from the Iraq city of
Sulaymaniyah. Teheran has been using terrorist groups to attack
Kurdish institutions since early in the year while at the same time
has them caused damage and destruction to highway spans and bridges
linking Baghdad to the Kurdish north. There have been reports on this
site for more than a year of Iran bombarding Kurdish units on Iran's
border, as has Ankara. Just yesterday, this site mentioned another
Turkish bombardment near the Iraq town of Zakho, even reports of
Turkish air force bombing raids.
Ankara's complaints to Washington and Baghdad, on no real occupation
effort to prevent PKK operations, began right after Saddam's removal
four years ago. The PKK began its separatists campaign in 1984, which
has caused the death of 40,000 people and the occupation by London-
Washington has done nothing to prevent Kurdish groups and communities
in Iraq's north from supporting the PKK. The usual estimates of how
many Kurdish militants there are in northern Iraq are usually
3,500-3,800, but there have been some estimates of as many as 15,000.
Kurdish militant groups are known to cross frequently between Turkey
and Iraq. Washington has been so concerned about Ankara's show of
mobilization that the Pentagon has conducted surveillance over flights
into Turkish airspace, which has now caused a war of words between
Washington/Ankara. Turkey has even threatened to fire on the aircraft.
What has made relations even worse is the current investigation Ankara
is conducting concerning the statements made by four defectors from
the PKK who admitted they have seen two American armored vehicles
delivering weapons to their base in the Qandil Mountains of northern
Iraq.
This is why I have often stated what London-Washington have been doing
is burning bridges in the region. Washington has had serious, smart,
strategic relations with Ankara for sixty years, ever since the end of
World War II, but when the West's foreign policy was put up for sale
during the 1970s and purchased by Teheran-Riyadh, through construction
contracts and weapon deals, the strategic perspective of the West
became non-existent and has been replaced only by a near panic
survival instinct. London-Washington can't even protect contractors in
Iraq. The engineering concern headquarted in San Francisco, whose
London branch office was shown on CNN invited to Iran, the day after
the Gulf War ended in 1991, has lost more than 50 employees in Iraq.
London-Washington neglected to take into consideration the exclusive
since of service Iran's government possesses. That is why Washington
has withdrawn most of its forces from northern Iraq and turned the
security of the region over to the Kurdish Peshmerga militia, which
will probably make its own arrangements with Ankara before the year is
over. The few remaining U. S. units in the area have circled the
wagons around Kirkuk. Allied victory was never possible in this
theatre, as private sector corruption has undermined the foreign
policy of their own governments, which front for them.
RIA reports the Iraq Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki is scheduled to
meet Ankara's government after Sunday's election. It is no revelation
to Ankara that every administration in Baghdad, since Saddam's
removal, has been an abject failure in providing security anywhere in
the country, because Ankara knew no Islamic government in the wanted
to see another Islamic country in the region occupied again by the
West, for whatever reason, real or imagined. So Ankara, as did every
government in the from Rabat to Dhaka, has been waiting for Teheran to
be ready with its war machine to enter the conflict completely and
make World War III (f)allout. The maneuvers all last year and this
year has signaled Iran's readiness. Guns of August warnings on this
site for at least two years will really happen this year. Islamic
governments and Beijing divided the enemy between them quite some time
ago. This year the world will see the results of their planning.

Not to tke away from your blood lust, but what Turkey
actually said is that they would not take action (send
forces into Kurdistan) unless the visit of the Iraqi
Prime Minister to Turkey fails.... and that this visit
would not take place until sometime after July 22nd.
Personally, considering all the water under the Iraqi
bridge, I'd rather that Bush simply informed the Turks
that if they invaded Kurdistan the U.S. Airforce would
rain death on them.
My guess is that the Kurdish forces -- at this late
stage -- should be more than enough to pin the Turks
down while the cluster bombs fall on them like
snowflakes.
Everyone wins!
The E.U. doesn't have to deal with that pesky Turky
trying to gain entry... Greece drools as they watch
they demise of their traditional enemy... Kurdistan
gains official recognition once Turkey is brought to
their knees... perhaps Kurdistan even grows, aquires
new territory... maybe even the Iraqi people can
unify in the face of a common enemy.
Not that I'm one to play "I told you so," but I've been
going off for years about how Turkey & Iran feel about
the Kurds, and Kurdish independence.
The "Iraq War" isn't over until the question is settled,
so might as well get it over with now, perhaps having
an ending already within sight by the next elections
(in Iraq and the U.S.).

They already have. The enemy is called America.

It can't unless you loosen or drop your pants, Johnny. You keep
forgetting. Your member must have a bit of negotiating space to do a lil'
jig. Even though it is quite small, fairy, your skin-tight gold leotards
allow your monkey no space to dance. I don't know how many times I need to
remind you. Perhaps you will catch on sooner or later.
