There is only so long until the whole thing starts backfiring.
Invading and de-facto occupying two countries is to pay back some day. The
USA simply does not have the strength to pay the upkeep of such a feat.
Given the fact that the USA has masterly got their nation into a costly war.
The USA has never been so weak.
- It's stretched it's military to limits
When NorthKorea, China, Iran or Syria makes so much as a stir, the defense
department has major headaches.
- It's stretched it's financials to limits
Any enemy has an easy job keeping Iraq costing money, just don't do
anything.
- Israel and Palestine are back on escalation tour
Any enemy has an easy job giving the USA more worries, just don't do
anything.
All assasins and terrorist just need one thing, a brain. The rest they do
themselves without anyone noticing.
Every assasin or terrorist will pay with his life, at the act or sometimes
decades later. Acting and not dying means that he/she was an idiot.
Most terrorists caugh by Israel are arrested for propaganda. But as with
most things in life, if it happens often enough, it sometimes falls in your
lap. If someone really doesn't want to get cought, there is some level of
luck involved. In the case of terrorists, the odds are against the victims.

Another interesting point you brought up was Korea. Considering these
loonies enjoy yanking everyone's chain to the limit, it'll be interesting to
see how the nuke negotiations go in the coming months with the U.S.
militaries resources taxed as they are now.
If things do start to go for the worst, it would be good to see the U.N.
step in and exert some pressure on Korea to shape up or get shipped out.

North Korea is being led by a lunatic. To expect rational behavior from
their is being far too optimistic.
Do not look for the US to engage North Korean troops in a ground war. We
tried that once before and know better than to try it again. There are
other, better ways of winning a war with them.

I see eliminating or minimizing a threat as winning.
No, I don't believe in old fashioned land wars either.
The one thing that I am certain of is that militant Islam must be dealt
with, whether efficiently or not. Mistakes will be made. People will die.
But people die every day anyway.
Sooner or later, militant Islam is going to strike again in a big way. I
want to see how many of you are pacifists then, especially if it is in your
home country.

The troops remaining in Iraq and Afghanistan are there to do them a favor
and help rebuild their infrastructure. Those same troops can be pulled and
redeployed in a heart beat. After all, their primary mission has been over
for quite a while now.
Do not look for major battles and troop engagements during this war. We have
other means of dealing with the enemy. There is simply no need to meet them
on their own terms. We, the USA, will maintain the advantage.

Errmm.. I doub very much that "meeting the enemy on their terms" woudl
involve pitched battles, as the enemy has nothing to compete with US
airpower, armour etc anymore than the Palestinians can compete with hi tech
Israeli weaponry. THey do have some very good tactical weaponry on their
side though, not leat of which is a ready supply of young people ready to
sacrifice themselves for their belief.
We, the USA, will maintain the advantage.
Of course you will retain the military advantage, just like in Vietnam, and
just like in Vietnam it won't be enough to defeat your enemy. Guerilla
attacks keep the troops stressed out and suspcious, so they treat the local
population with less respect and more brutality which in turn creates or
increasses support for the terrorists among the civilians. Guerilla attacks
increase until the folks back home start getting upset at seeing so many of
their kids come home in body bags. You can't fight the guerillas with tanks
and planes because they are in the fields cheering their American liberators
by day but skulking through the streets with an AK by night.
