U.S. to deploy penetrating missiles in S. Korea
The U.S. military will deploy new missiles capable of hitting deep
underground facilities in North Korea by early next year, U.S.
officials said.
The U.S. will field its new Army Tactical Missile System-Penetrator,
known as ATACMS-P, to counter North Korea's deeply buried weapons
systems.
North Korea has thousands of rockets, artillery and missiles buried in
hardened structures close to the Demilitarized Zone separating the two
countries.
The missile can burrow into the ground before exploding.
Military commanders have asked for six ATACMS-P missiles to be
deployed with U.S. forces. The missiles are part of a U.S. military
transformation in South Korea that would reduce the number of ground
troops but increase the weapons and firepower, including Stealth
aircraft.

Oh joy! NK develops ballstic missle technologies that give their
missiles the range and accuracy to hit cities as for as the Midwest,
and then makes it next project the ability to make these long range
missles NBC capable.
Meanwhile, NK irresponsibly sell parts and techical know how to other
countries - including South Americam countries like historical rivals
Argentina and Brazil (both seeking WMD capability) - in order to get
cash for its impoversished society, leading to a pre WWI like scenario
except with WMD as a new variable!
I am not trying to be a war scare monger, nor am I trying to advocate
reckless all out war against NK. But the reality is that we need to
more agressively focus on NK somehow, or all this talk about
containing this offshhot of the war on terror, global WMD
proliferation, is a bunch of empty BS, since NK is the most aggressive
proliferator of this stuff, IMO.
If Kerry wants to cut a deal with the NK's he better be sure it is
verifiable and enforceable. Would really ***** me off if he gets
clowned again like Cl*nton
Funny thing is that once we connected it to terrorism and said it
could be a reason for the US to attack a country, it just made the WMD
proliferation issue worse. But now it is too late to reverse this.

If you've got such good fucking intelligence, why not just go
grab their boat, or intercept their plane when it lands? Hell,
we pay thousands of guys full-time to sit around and being black
op specialists, why not put them to good use. Or is it just more
fun dropping 30,000 pound bombs?

If you know what they're doing, why not go stop them? Don't
try to tell me that bombing NK back to the stone age is going
to stop that boat that's already headed to South America.

I am not trying to be a war scare monger,

Sure you are. It's that whole paranoia thing that Bush is
playing. Other presidents quietly achieved our national
security goals without causing mass hysteria, why can't
Bush? Perhaps he understands it's easier to sell his
zaney ideas if everybody is paranoid about the boogie-man
with the rag on his head.

No, but hopefully it will prevent more boats with WMD from going to
South America or may prevent future boats or planes with South
American WMD material or technicians selling their stuff to places
like Nigeria.
Can't let Prometheus tell too many people too much about how to make
fire. We don't need scary speeches at the UN or at the State of the
Union address about this. It is better if it is done on a low key.

Spec ops is really only a reactive measure to NK proliferation. We
could set up a blockade along the NK coasts(as you say, leave them in
their prision forever), making sure what comes in and out is not WMD,
but the NK's could possibbly smuggle or bribe Chinese and Russian
officials along their northern border and arrange to have the WMD
material shipped from a third country port. This would draw much
international criticism, though, and it cannot stop the spread of
technical ideas. I agree that Spec Ops would be necessary for WMD
shipments that have escaped the blockade. If the NK's attain and start
smuggling WMD material out by submarine, this would be a very
complicating factor. This could lead to a million billon bombs and
artillery shells being dropped, or the NK's may cool off.
Containment has its limitations, but it wil soon reach a point where
it won't matter if we attack or just contain NK anymore, since so many
other countries will be starting their own WMD programs.

It's like Clinton (US President) once said, if we went to war
with every country we have a problem with we'd have to invade
every country on the planet. I find it amazing Bush has such
problems maintaining national security. AlQaeda is an
international crime syndicate, much like the mafia. If Bush
had half a wit of brain and diplomacy skill he'd have every
country on earth searching out the Islamic extremists and
arresting them, doing our work for us.
I can only assume that allowing AlQaeda to live somehow
fits Bush's agenda. Bush does seem to enjoy moving troops
around, dropping largish bombs, invading countries if it's
a sure win and there's lots of oil there, and spending
prodigiously on the latest military technology.

Pakistan also allows proliferation of nuke technology abroad as well.
Maybe not gov't sponsored like NK.
They also have a fairly robust Fundie population.
