In Afghanistan, it now appears the U.S. military will stay in the country
for years to come. The Bush administration announced today it is spending
$83 million to upgrade two main military bases including Bagram Air Base.
New runways are being built to allow NATO F-16s to use the airstrip. The
U.S. still has 17,000 troops in Afghanistan. On Saturday four U.S.
soldiers there were killed by a landmine.
The Americans have a large military force next to Russia, China, and
India. The likely enemies in a resource war. The Americans won't move
until the resource wars are over, or the Americans are forcefully removed.
There are about 5000 none US NATO troop in Afghanistan, almost all of them
in Kabul. Americans have been very resistant to letting other forces to move
outside of Kabul where the real action is.
There is an extraordinary film made by an independent journalist called the
Taliban Country. You can see it online at : www.talibancountry.com. It's
about the only eye witness report from Afghanistan outside of Kabul. The
amount of atrocities going on with total impunity in the provinces is mind
bugling.

The other likely enemies in a resource war being the countries that have
the resources. The US won't be pulling out of Iraq any time soon.
