Object: Usenet is like a bad drug
You start posting and craving the replies, and then it breaks into
either a self-rationalization that you are improving yourself with the
knowledge and perception gained from it, or you become ego-driven and
use it to attempt to control the flow of things. Either way, it's a bad
trip - just when you think you are in control, you realize you are just
one speck in a limitless universe of Usenet addicts. And like any
shitty drug, this is not realized until you spend time away from it and
realize you were under the influence of stupidity. If you truly value
your experience here, try spending some time away from it to gain a
sense of objectivity, or else you will be sucked in like JC and m.
Use as directed. One post every 1-2 days as needed (1P q 1-2d prn). Do
not exceed 5 posts in a 24-hour period.

if you want to characterize usenet discussion as some kind of
psychological addiction, or social obsession, then what you're really
saying is that the common need for human beings to blab their heads off
about anything and everything, and argue endlessly about even the most
minute of issues, is something self-destructive or "weird."
before the internet, no one had a fast, easy line of communication that
they could exercise their jawbones. It was a slow snail-mail procedure in
magazine forums, or call-ins to talk radio, or the occasional live call-in
TV talk show. or, people had to get together physically and yap it up. if
you'd been living in those days, no means of communication really afforded
humans to express themselves in such a constantly flowing manner,
interacting quickly, as well.
human beings are doing nothing unusual here on the usenet other than
finally having a unique forum to quickly opine, argue, and share their
views. so, i reject that it causes some kind of mental aberration in the
participants, or that this is a pathological self-destructive behavior
that is solely fostered by this unique forum.
buddy, humans are nuts. have always been nuts, literally. if you live for
a long enough time, you'll get that impression reinforced. they like to
talk a lot. argue a lot. joke a lot, expend their hot air on a variety of
issues. they're full of hostilities, prejudices, fears, joy, egotism,
self-delusions, et al.
so, the what you criticize is also what you just used to blabber your
opinions, and your analysis of the *situation* seems based on your
personal experience. it probably made you feel just a bit better. but, to
some, it won't. and, so what? join the species' collective behavior,
fella, reduce your tensions over it, and get used to it. it'll be around
for an awfully long time to come...it does more good than harm to
interact, if only to blow one's horn loudly.

I rather fancy you have just proved the accuracy of 'Flubber's' post.

Anything that you enjoy doing is a good drug too.
I found Usenet to be the most educational place
I've ever encountered and the best drug of them all.

It is Popey, it is. Even odd passers by such as yuno have contributed
to my wonder at humanity...:)
The diversity of characters is...compelling.

It is I -- 'The Pope' using one of my other names
and accounts to avoid the limits of the number
of posts that Google allows per name - per day.
I'm going to Maui next month to meet the 'Green Tara'.
That's why I posted about the UFO info things. In the
unlikely event that the 'Green Tara' transends me into
higher dimensions than I currently reside in remains
to be seen. I did try to put it all together in proper --
in that post to explain the very essence of humanity
and its diverse psychedelic characters it so often
manafests hither and yon -- every now and then.

I see Michael. I see just what you are...Having glanced at your other
posts in your 'usual' forum.
You have strayed into Nostradamus group. Your sentiments are not
appreciated. Popey has a certain respect and esteem amongst us. You do
not.
I commend caution. In here you will encounter the sort of lunatics that
would delight in tearing a self-righteous prig such as you to pieces.
But we are forgiving souls. Just post your unconditional apology for
being an insulting little *****, and all will be well.
Thank you so much.

This is really deep dude, where did you learn stuff like this? Seriously I
mean the thing that you have to spend time away from something and get some
"sense of objectivity".. you manage to put wisdom even in funny posts. I
found this really empowering, where did you learn things like that, or is it
just your experience talking?
(This isn't a joke I'm serious here, really! :)

He was an editor of an ezine of course.
How else can one become so enlightened?
Surely not from the DXM they take to seek
the secret knowledge of the known and the
unknown universes - after all there are at
least 28 more dimensions to find and use
and explore even if your mind so desires.
I'm going to take our most enlightened ADP
Joels advise and stop on my 5th NOW! :)
And, threfore we are all as one in the
mind of the creator.
