Bush Is About To Attack Iran
Paul Craig Roberts
Lew Rockwell.com
Saturday, January 27, 2007
The American public and the US Congress are getting their backs up=20
about the Bush Regime=E2=80=99s determination to escalate the war in Iraq. =
A=20
massive protest demonstration is occurring in Washington DC today, and=20
Congress is expressing its disagreement with Bush=E2=80=99s decision to=20
intensify the war in Iraq.
This is all to the good. However, it misses the real issue =E2=80=93 the Bu=
sh=20
Regime=E2=80=99s looming attack on Iran.
Rather than winding down one war, Bush is starting another. The entire=20
world knows this and is discussing Bush=E2=80=99s planned attack on Iran in=20
many forums. It is only Americans who haven=E2=80=99t caught on. A few=20
senators have said that Bush must not attack Iran without the approval=20
of Congress, and postings on the Internet demonstrate world-wide=20
awareness that Iran is in the Bush Regime=E2=80=99s cross hairs. But Congre=
ss=20
and the Media =E2=80=93 and the demonstration in Washington =E2=80=93 are f=
ocused on=20
Iraq.
What can be done to bring American awareness up to the standard of the=20
rest of the world?
In Davos, Switzerland, the meeting of the World Economic Forum, a=20
conference where economic globalism issues are discussed, opened=20
January 24 with a discussion of Bush=E2=80=99s planned attack on Iran. The=20
Secretary General of the League of Arab States and bankers and=20
businessmen from such US allies as Bahrain and the United Arab=20
Emirates all warned of the coming attack and its catastrophic=20
consequences for the Middle East and the world. Writing for Global=20
Research (January 24), General Leonid Ivashov, vice president of the=20
Academy on Geopolitical Affairs and former Joint Chief of Staff of the=20
Russian Armies, forecast an American nuclear attack on Iran by the end=20
of April. General Ivashov presented the neoconservative reasoning that=20
is the basis for the attack and concluded that the world=E2=80=99s protests=20
cannot stop the US attack on Iran. There will be shock and=20
indignation, General Ivashov concludes, but the US will get away with=20
it. He writes:
"Within weeks from now, we will see the informational warfare machine=20
start working. The public opinion is already under pressure. There=20
will be a growing anti-Iranian militaristic hysteria, new information=20
leaks, disinformation, etc. . . . The probability of a US aggression=20
against Iran is extremely high. It does remain unclear, though,=20
whether the US Congress is going to authorize the war. It may take a=20
provocation to eliminate this obstacle (an attack on Israel or the US=20
targets including military bases). The scale of the provocation may be=20
comparable to the 9-11 attack in NY. Then the Congress will certainly=20
say "Yes" to the US President."
The Bush Regime has made it clear that it is convinced that Bush=20
already has the authority to attack Iran. The Regime argues that the=20
authority is part of Bush=E2=80=99s commander-in-chief powers. Congress has=20
authorized the war in Iraq, and Bush=E2=80=99s recent public statements hav=
e=20
shifted the responsibility for the Iraqi insurgency from al-Qaeda to=20
Iran. Iran, Bush has declared, is killing US troops in Iraq. Thus,=20
Iran is covered under the authorization for the war in Iraq. Both Bush=20
and Cheney have made it clear in public statements that they will=20
ignore any congressional opposition to their war plans.
For example, CBS News reported (Jan. 25) that Cheney said that a=20
congressional resolution against escalating the war in Iraq "won=E2=80=99t=20
stop us." According to the Associated Press and Yahoo News, Bush=20
dismissed congressional disapproval with his statement, "I=E2=80=99m the=20
decision-maker."
Everything is in place for an attack on Iran. Two aircraft carrier=20
attack forces are deployed to the Persian Gulf, US attack aircraft=20
have been moved to Turkey and other countries on Iran=E2=80=99s borders,=20
Patriot anti-missile defense systems are being moved to the Middle=20
East to protect oil facilities and US bases from retaliation from=20
Iranian missiles, and growing reams of disinformation alleging Iran=E2=80=
=99s=20
responsibility for the insurgency in Iraq are being fed to the=20
gullible US Media.
General Ivashov and everyone in the Middle East and at the Davos=20
globalization conference in Europe understand the Bush Regime=E2=80=99s=20
agenda. Why cannot Americans understand?
Why hasn=E2=80=99t Congress told Bush and Cheney that they will both be=20
instantly impeached if they initiate a wider war?

My scenario is that there will be a 'shock and awe' incident on=20
American troops and/or Iraqis that'll leave many, many casualties, and=20
Iran will be 'found' to be the culprit. From that point on, US=20
military forces will have a green light to neutralize the "Iranian=20
threat."
There is much enlisted military chat room chatter about the naval=20
mission and claims that at least 120 aircraft, both choppers and jets,=20
with cruise missiles, and armed Hellfire UAVs (about 30 according to=20
one anonymous source claiming to be on the John Stennis carrier) will=20
be employed in the aerial invasion. He claims the UAVs are being=20
hidden inside the carriers. One guy wrote, "It's the biggest fucking=20
air op since the Gulf War ... the towelheads in Iran are burnt=20
toast....we'll knock out their Tehran command hole with bunker=20
busters...that will leave them wide open...we're going in to take=20
their ***** government down." And he adds, "...Mahmud Allmadeenjerk=20
will get fucking barbecued."
Bravado and boasting from some 19 year olds, or is there any truth to=20
it? Hard to say...

Whether you're right or 100%, everything looks exactly
the same.
See, the military doesn't just "Wing it." They make
plans. They try to anticipate every possility, prepare
for every contingency.
Nobody in their right mind is going to invade Iraq with
120 aircraft, or even 1,200 aircraft. It's a nation of
over 70 million people, more than twice as many as
Iraq. And their military has never been humiliated the
way Iraq's military was. They had a tough time in the
begining of the Iran-Iraq war, but they had turned
things around. They were winning. They were going to
win.When international pressure -- including U.S.
involvement -- finally pushed them to the table, they

The Strait of Hormuz, dude.
We don't have to crush Iran. We don't need to topple
them the way we did Iraq. All we have to do is keep
the Strait of Hormuz open.
Well, that & protect international shipping (Read: Oil
tankers).
And, yeah, your idea of "Faking" Iranian attacks in
Iraq is equally as crazy. We don't have to fake it.
If anything pisses of Iran, it's the idea of an independent
Kurdistan. They hate the Kurds -- just like Saddam
did, just like Turkey does -- And the end result of our
invasion of Iraq will be an independent Kurdistan.
Keep your eyes on the Kurds. Eventually -- sooner
rather than later -- they are going to claim their
independence.

*****, might as well wait for some crazy corporate Christian to come=20

Oh, you mean we never set up incidents by deliberate
agitation, or carry our any kind of conspiratorial plans,

As I pointed out, that's unnecessary.
The Iranians are -- and always have been (even in the
days of the Shah) -- hostile towards Kurdish
independence. The Iranians did -- past tense --
threaten to blockade the Strait of Hormuz if we imposed
sanctions.
The Kurds are going to declare independence. Heck,
they've been operating themselves as an independent
nation for years already! We did successfully push
sanctions against Iran through the U.N.
The Iranians have, in one sense or another, been in
Iraq longer than we have. Iranian-backed Islamic
militants have been inside Iraq for a very long time.
Up until Bush's invasion, they were fighting to overthrow
Saddam and install an Iranian-style Islamic government.

Yes. I have a very good point. I wonder why you fail to see it?

If you ever get past putting self-defeating human behavior into the
confines of national boundaries, then you'll progress beyond the point
that most haven't.
America is failing not because its ideals, laws, infrastructure, etc., are
inherently bad, but because human behavior is.
That is why, you doll molester, I say America is going down. It is not
hatred for the system per se, as it is disgust with the species'
shortcomings. But, realistically, some social, economic, political, and
religious systems engender more of that bad behaviour than others.
America's opulent, fantasy-oriented, wasteful culture appeals to the
narcissist, the hedonist, the materialist that is in our nature, and even
to the hatefulness and violence in us, particularly the male gender, with
fascination with, and glorification of warfare, sadism, and various forms
of extreme violence.
You can find other cultures in history and in the world today that don't
have the level of these negative behavioral characteristics as America
does, present in them, as one can clearly see in Canada, for example.

I was about to tell you how wrong you are -- with rolling
every 'R' full on -- when I realized that I'd have to agree
with you at some level.
What's wrong with America is that the people with the
power & responsibility to fix problems won't. They
refuse. Because they are short sighted. Because they
don't care. Because they cash in on bad policies.
I have a friend who's older than me. He's in his late
40s already. And though he's never in his life had a
salary as high as 40K, he's determined to make a
fortune in the stock market.
He watches a lot of those investment shows. Anyhow,
I was over his place one night talking to him, the TV
in the background, when I notice what the investment
guru is saying. He was talking about some kind of
investment which he described as basically worthless.
He was talking about timing... when to buy... making
sure you sell before it slides.... and I couldn't help
but feel disgusted. In no uncertain terms this guy was
talking about cheating people. This was nothing short
of an organized, legalized con scam.
I forget what exactly the investment was -- I hadn't
been paying attention -- but there's no way to doll it
up. This guy was saying that you buy a worthless
piece of paper, hold on to it for a short time, then
sell it to someone else whom you believe will be
stuck holding a worthless investment -- and losing
all their money.
My friend -- a Baptist who has on occasion called
evolution into question -- explained it to me. He
said that you're supposed to research these things,
educate yourself, and if you don't and get stuck
then it's your fault.
What con artists doesn't say the same thing?
What does all this have to do with the current state
of America?
Gee, who runs Wall Street? The powerless little
people who have little money and even less pull
inside the government?
Guess again.
The people at the very top in America, the richest
of the rich, the movers & shakers, the ones who
have the cash to influence politicians & even whole
parties... they are deviod of all morals.
I don't have to tell you about the Bush family. Dubya
and his baseball team scam... his brother and the
Silverado Savings & Loan... his grandparents and the
Nazi assets they protected....
But what about everyone else? What about all the
hundreds -- if not thousands -- of equally corrupt
familes that lined up for a chance to bring in a Bush
or some other big name into a deal in order to protect
them?
If you run a savings & loan and want to steal, bring
in one of the Bush boys and invite him to stuff his
pockets too. That way the Bush's have to protect
you. If you go down, the Bush boy goes down with
you...
It's not just the Bush's, either. They're simply unusually
stupid, airing their corruption within full view.
No, America isn't the root of all evil, nor is Iran, nor was the
USSR...etc. These are cultural vehicles the insane nasty little bipeds

Assumption is the mother of all *****-ups. For example, when

Yep, it IS all America's fault, and has been since 16 July 1945. Since that
early morning in the New Mexico desert, it's been all our fault. Totally.
Irrevokably. WE commissioned the creation of the Ultimate Weapon. WE
deployed it on Japan within a month's time of its successful testing. WE let
the technology slip to the rest of the world, to create the perpetual cycle
of 'Fear of Total War' that drives our economy, and the economies of the
rest of the industrialized world. It's ALL OUR FAULT. Now, through
complacency and greed, WE let a monster get control of the reins of
government, and he is about to fulfill prophecy on a terrible scale only
imagined in our ancestors worst nightmares, and it's all OUR fault. Uranium
enrichment is an industrial process on a large scale. Do you have any idea
what will happen when a 'tactical' weapon is deployed on an underground
facility? It won't be neat and tidy, that's for sure. A 10 kiloton device
will put the entire facility into the stratosphere as highly radioactive
particles. Along with the fission byproducts of the device, there will be
tons of raw materials; ie uranium and it's byproducts, in the mix. Once this
gets to the stratosphere, it will be carried thousands of miles downwind,
and take months at least to drift down to the top of the weather layer where
it will be washed out onto the ground. Chernobyl will be a picnic in
comparison. China is downwind of Iran, how do you think they will respond
to the contamination of their farmland which barely feeds their population
as it is? China has lots of missiles that can reach the US, and Big Bombs to
go on top of them. What are the odds that they might just want a little
payback? Probably better than even money. I wonder why you fail to see this.

A long time ago, when I was naive in my early teens, I thought America was
the proverbial 'cat's meow' and could do no wrong. By the time I was in my
later teens, I no longer thought the nation was anything but another
version of a failed, tyrannical empire such as Rome, or Egypt.
Now, so many years later, I think I must've had some kind of miraculous
insight bestowed upon me...perhaps it was the acid. (heeheeheehee...) In
any case, I'm so grateful I don't live in abject ignorance like so many
I've encountered over the decades here.
That knowledge, though, has been a double-edged sword, as so many things
are in life. Since the great majority continue to buy into the
corporate-governmental tyranny's propaganda and lifestyle, I've endured
lots of hostile, paranoid, and vigorous "cult members" who basically have
one crystal-clear message, "America -- love it or leave it." Not really
loving it, but not necessarily taking their advice, I left it for months
and lived in British Columbia with some friends. One of my biggest
mistakes in my life was coming back. Later, health problems ensued, and
various personal and financial messes occurred, and...well...here I am,
sick and ailing, depressed, nearly broke, and living, with much diffculty,
amongst the rabid, stupid cultists.
After 9/11, the cultists went ape-berserk, as you folks in other nations
observed with great alarm, and became the "holy crusaders" for "truth,
freedom, democracy, and the American way" in the Mideast, and other
regions where opportunities for commercial exploitation seemed worth the
armed conflict, if economic coercion, and/or political subversion, didn't
work.
I now know, without any doubt whatsoever, that America's ruling class and
much of its ordinary citizenry, comprise essentially an "evil empire" hell
bent on dominating the world in a variety of ways, but that, curiously, I
feel some satisfaction to know it hasn't that long of a shelf life left.
I say it's a curious feeling because I will have to suffer or die in its
waning days, which I know have begun in earnest.
We are basically, mostly trash, Wolfy. You are right, generally. There are
some, however, in a minority to be sure, that work against the trash every
day, in many ways, some subtle, others blatant. The trash is nearly ruling
the planet, though, and we know from even a cursory reading of
civilizational history, the trash will be buried some day ...and
hopefully, rising in its place, something more sane and workable, more
caring and responsible, more peaceful and lasting...not a starry-eyed
utopia, by any means, but a civilization that understands and acknowledges
its shortcomings and whatever 'evil' it has in it (rather than
hyprocritically positioning itself as "lambs among the wolves"), and tries
harder to co-exist with others, and all living things, as a cooperative,
non-violent, non-exploitative, non-judgemental, somewhat humbled culture
of reasonably intelligent, rational, creative, loving people. May be a
pipe dream, I know, but it's my fervent hope...
That is why I chose to name my blog site, Utopian Republic News (URN) --
the title is both a reflection of that hope and a sardonic swipe at those
who erroneously think that they are already living in a utopia! The icon,
an urn, represents the ashes of a failed civilization we have now, soon to
be buried, and the horizon beyond (that is pictured) and behind it,
represents the hope and promise of a new fresh beginning for us.
Now, I must check my front and back door again to make sure they are
locked and bolted...and turn on the cable news channel to get the latest
dose of lies, fear-mongering, arrogance, sex scandals, corruption, insane
leaders, materialistic obsessions, and the overriding twisted myopia of a
culture with its collective swelled head up its *****.
