Police probe if party-boy attack staged
Victorian police officers are examining video footage of the alleged
bashing of 16-year-old party boy Corey Worthington amid claims the
attack may have been staged.
Mobile phone footage of the alleged attack shows a young man chasing
Corey and then appearing to hit and knee the teenager. In the
background someone can be heard yelling: "Chris, give it to him!"
"There is an investigation into the incident involving a large number
of youths at Fountain Gate," a police spokeswoman said.
"At this stage no one has been charged.
"Police were called to the scene so they had to investigate."
"There's been allegations in the media that the footage might be fake
and police are investigating that, too."
She said that no one was injured in the fight.
"There were no injures, nothing was reported through to us," she said.
The alleged attack began at Max Pawsey Reserve, in Narre Warren, in
Victoria's south-east, and ended up at the Westfield Fountain Gate
Shopping center, she said. The shopping center, near Corey's home, was
made famous as the hangout of Kath and Kim from the eponymous TV show.
Corey became an international figure after his unapologetic response
to holding a party at his home last month that descended into a
rolling riot that police had to quell.
In a few notorious days, the 16-year-old become such a phenomenon that
Googling him now produces more than 184,000 web results and more than
3000 blog references.
He is now believed to have reconciled with his parents and is being
represented by celebrity agent Max Markson, amid reports he is being
paid to go on a world tour as a party promoter and DJ.
