"Though the Americans had already referred to Iranian presidential elections
as having quite 'known' results, now the US State Department spokesman
describes the results as being quite 'unpredictable' and 'accidental'. LOL

Congratulations to all Iranians and their new president. A wonderful turnout
despite all odds. As the main slogan for Mahmood Ahmadinejad's campaign went
"It's possible and we can do it". Democracy is a wonderful thing when people
don't play with the voting machines...

Iran urges US to respect Iranians' choice
TEHRAN, June 25 -- Iran strongly condemned the United States' comments on
its presidential election on Saturday, urging Washington to "respect
Iranians' choice", the official IRNA news agency reported.
"The American administration which claims to be an advocate of democracy
should respect the Iranian nation's choice and stop intervening in Iran's
internal affairs," Foreign Ministry spokesmanHamid-Reza Asefi was quoted as
saying.
Asefi said the massive participation of Iranian voters in two rounds of
presidential elections proved their interest in determining their own
destiny.
"Iranians' votes also demonstrated their strong opposition to USpolicies,"
he said.
Asefi said that the US policies towards Iran were based on interfering in
Tehran's internal affairs, which he said is utterly "incorrect".
Asefi also made fun of US officials' contradictory remarks.
"Though the Americans had already referred to Iranian presidential elections
as having quite 'known' results, now the US State Department spokesman
describes the results as being quite 'unpredictable' and 'accidental'," he
said.
The spokesman concluded that the recent elections should teach alesson to
the American officials to be more cautious and avoid making unfounded
remarks.
US State Department spokeswoman Joanne Moore said earlier in theday that
Iran was out of step with the rest of the region and the currents of freedom
and liberty.
Iran announced on Saturday that ultra-conservative Tehran mayor Mahmood
Ahmadinejad had defeated pragmatic former president Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani
with a landslide win in the ninth presidential election runoff.
Ahmadinejad's success has been viewed as a bad news for the frozen relation
between Washington and Tehran due to his hardline stance.
Iran and the United States have been at enmity for 26 years, with Washington
branding Iran's election as undemocratic and rigged.

Don't worry, Stat, I'm convinced that the Mullahs are stupid enough
to make up out minds for us.

By "us" you of course mean 'your rulers'
FYI, the new Iranian president is not a Mullah. He's an active intellectual
militant coming from an extremely poor background, who's stayed quite
modest, despide his phenomenal personal success. A true American dream story
there for you ;-)
Here's an excert o his bio from Wikipedia:
---
Born in Garmsar, the son of a blacksmith, his family moved to Tehran when he
was one year old. He entered Iran University of Science and Technology
(IUST) as an undergraduate student of civil engineering in 1976. He
continued his studies in the same university, entering the MSc program for
civil engineering in 1986 and finally receiving his PhD in Traffic and
transportation engineering and planning.
In 1980, Ahmadinejad was the head representative of IUST to the student
gatherings that took sessions with the presence of the Ayatollah Khomeini.
In these sessions, the foundations of the first Office for Strengthening
Unity (daftar-e tahkim-e vahdat), the student organization behind seizure of
the United States embassy which led to the Iran hostage crisis, were
created. During the seizure of the embassy, Ahmadinezhad suggested a
simultaneous attempt against the Soviet Union embassy, which was voted down.
During the Iran-Iraq war, Ahmadinezhad joined the Islamic Revolutionary
Guards Corps in 1986. After training at the headquarters, he saw action in
extraterritorial covert operations against Kirkuk, Iraq. Later he also
became the head engineer of the sixth army of the Islamic Revolutionary
Guards Corps and the head of the Corps' staff in the western provinces of
Iran. After the war, he has served as vice governor and governor of Maku and
Khoy, an Advisor to the Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance, and the
governor of the then newly established Ardabil province from 1993 to October
1997.
