In the US, tax exempt status is generally based on your reporting and
how you handle your profits. If your net income does not go toward
shareholders, but for other activities, then you are (likely) eligible
for non-profit status.
Pretty nasty that they'd bring in money, make use of local services
(roads, fire, EMS, etc), and then worm out of paying their portion to
support those services.

Now that they got non-profit status they
should rename it 'Holy Fantasy World
Theme Park'.
