Object: What happened to this group?
I have been an on-again/off-again lurker in this group for a long time. At
least back in 1999/2000 this group was entertaining with the whole King of
Terror thing. People actually talked about Nosty back then. Now it is all
crap that should be put in alt.my.tinfoil.hat.is.too.tight.
What gives people? Lets talk about the worlds favorite seer. Here, I will
start:
"Oh no. I just thought of something. Maybe this Chinese astronaut is
really the King of Terror. The Mongol. That is where the ship will land
and takes off from."
Ok, I know it is silly and is not anyway what Nosty meant. Still, its
better than the rest of the crap around here.

Nosty has been given the ol' heave-ho in favor of a more "apocalyptic" feel...
Sort of like an eschatological end-times scenario in which we now find ourselves....
Perhaps alt.prophecies.current events would be a more apt title for this group...
So there U have it - Nosty has been given the big shove -- and it's all
doooooooooomsayer prophecies from here on in !!!
Remember 911 -- we there's much worse to come....
So take a comfy lounge chair or recliner, sit back, relax, chill out --
but most importantly -- enjoy the endtimes ;-)

You forgot with a good stiff drink!
However any group is only as good as it's posters, yes there has been
a proxy newserver aspect and yes one can rail at this and that.
But back to the seer, you reckon he was on the money, or did he make
fools of the attempts to interpret him?
But perhaps just to raise an issue of Nostradamus who also was
interested in the changes we go through.
and now a random Quatrain:
C8Q48. Saturn in Cancer, Jupiter with Mars in February 'Chaldondon'
salva terre 1. Sierra Morena besieged on three sides near Verbiesque
2, war and mortal conflict.
1 Chaldondon Salveterre = possibly soothsayer at Salvatierra
2 Verbiesque = unsolved place name
XLVIII. Saturne en Cancer, Jupiter avec Mars, Dedans Feurier
Chaldondon 5 salvaterre 6. Sault Castalon 7 affailli de trois pars 8,
Pres de Verbiesque conflit mortelle guerre.
5 Chaldondon = Chaldeus soothsayer
6 Salvaterre = Safe land or a place
7 Sault Castulon = Sierra Morena
8 pars = OF: pars side
CVIIIQ 48. This quatrain bids fair to containing the greatest number
of twisted and incomprehensible obscurities. According to Wollner (p.
63), in the period 1555-3797 the conjunction specified will never take
place but will come closest on February 1, 2769. This is odd, as the
two elements seem rather commonplace. As for Chaldondon salvaterre,
one might as well give up.
Boswell (1941, p. 156), copied, without credit, by McCann (1942, pp.
:341-42), explains it this way: The first line is mere astrological
rigmarole for warring powers in an era of misery which 1914-18
certainly was. On February 3, 1917, answering Germany's declaration of
total submarine warfare, the United States severed diplomatic
relations with Berlin. Chaldean is a deft, Nostradamic touch
epitomizing Woodrow Wilson, architect of the League of Nations, that
modern Leaning Tower of Babble at Geneva. The clairvoyant word-twister
added don to Chaldon, making another pun, President Wilson having been
a college don [sic!] before he entered politics.
The last word of the second line, salvaterre, is telescoped from the
Latin salus (safety) and terrae (of the earth). [Translation: In
February the Chaldean gives the Earth safety.] The first word of the
next line, sault, has been taken as deriving from the Latin saltus
(fall) while the next, castallon, is cognate with castallum (strong
point). [Translation: The stronghold falls.]
Verbiesque is a typical Nostradamic anagram, which is unravelled into
three parts, as he hints slyly in the preceding line. These are V, the
Roman numeral for five; erbies, transformed into Serbie by transposing
the terminal s to the front of the cryptogram, making the perfectly
good French name for Serbia; and que (what). The "stronghold" of the
third line is Germany, chief of the Central Powers, which occupied
such a naturally defendable position, but which had to fight a war on
three fronts-eastern, southern and western, a nightmare for any
general staff. The V, or five, stands for the five powers originally
involved in the dispute over Serbia in 1914-France, Belgium, Russia,
Germany and Austria. All this seems a bit cryptic....
In the face of this ingenious analysis, which would have warmed
Nostradamus' heart, it is sad to have to identify the locale as
southern Spain. It appears also in the Epistle in connection with the
New Crusade. There is a Salvatierra near by, but nothing for
Chaldondon or Verbiesque. Closest to the latter is probably the
Verbices, the name of a classical tribe near Tangier in North Africa
(for "Moors"?).

ravines and canyons of the Pyrenees ‘the army had to split itself into

re-assembling for a week’s rest in the vale of Pamplona. He also
reports specifically (I.238-241) that the Prince advanced to

looked up the wrong part of his astrological tables, however, since

That's where it happened. 'Verbiesque' was presumably the best the
printer could make of the name when it was dictated aloud to him
(almost the same letters!). Obviously he had never heard of it --
which is also why reams of other unfamiliar place-names are similarly
mangled in Nostradamus.

Actually it is a group of 2, with 2 or 3 user names.
And...
They have really big mouths so it just seems like more.
But to answer the person who started this thread:
If you post about Nostradamus, you will get replies about Nostradamus.
It will most likely end up in an egotistical 3 way fight, but a fight
about Nostradamus, none the less.
Have YOU posted about Nostradamus today?

crap that should be put in alt.my.tinfoil.hat.is.too.tight.

*
Although the period you give (1999/2000) was a better time than
the present for this NewsGroup, I most enjoyed the 1998 period,
as the nonsense had not yet begun "en masse".
*
You asked: what happened? A few major events happened. The first
was that some people realized that this NewsGroup was a splendid
forum for discussing anything and everything, except, of course,
Nostradamus' Prophecies. This became overwhelming during the
Summer of 2001, when Palestine became the hot topic.
*
And then, September 11 happened. This NewsGroup became completely
flooded with articles about the attacks. After this had begun to
ebb a little, it became apparent that political discussions,
having absolutely nothing to do with Nostradamus' prophecies,
were here to stay. This madness even contaminated some who
regularly posted about Nostradamus. Result? Today, hundreds of
articles having nothing to do with the Prophecies are posted
every day.
*
I am told that the only way to stop this is to complain against
the greatest offenders with their ISP. Result? They change ISP
and continue polluting this NewsGroup.
*
One way not to be annoyed by these polluters is to ignore any
title which suggests that they are not discussing Nostradamus'
Prophecies. Another way is to ignore all the articles by a
particular culprit. The problem with this approach is that, once
in a blue moon, there might very well be the odd article about
the Prophecies surreptitiously slipped in between two others.
*

What gives people? Lets talk about the worlds favorite seer. Here, I will
start:

"Oh no. I just thought of something. Maybe this Chinese astronaut is
really the King of Terror. The Mongol. That is where the ship will land
and takes off from."

Ok, I know it is silly and is not anyway what Nosty meant. Still, its
better than the rest of the crap around here.

*
Good try, anonymous one! But don't hold your breath, as the main
culprits seem to be considering Usenet as a cheap alternative to
a prolonged stay at the funny farm. Come to think of it... IT IS
a cheap alternative; or else, they are now giving the residents a
free Internet account, prompting them to vent their frustrations,
in any NewsGroup they choose, against what is going wrong in the
world. And they sometimes further cut expenses by not providing
appropriate medication to the inmates, which leads to verbal
excesses mostly related to various bodily functions and related
body parts. I just wonder what Doctor Nostradamus' diagnostic
would have been of the current situation of a.p.n. :-)

Multi organ failure seems the most likely diagnosis. Prognosis is extremely
poor.
However, APN has a strong constitution so all is not lost.

A good deal too much choler, or black bile, I would say. Or is it
green? ;)

Although the period you give (1999/2000) was a better time than
the present for this NewsGroup, I most enjoyed the 1998 period,
as the nonsense had not yet begun "en masse".

Also, in 98, the net had really only been opened up for a few years,
and newsgroups were something you "knew" about.
By 2001, "everybody" was on the net and newsgroups were 'common'
knowledge.

Mind you, that was demonstrably crap, too, and 'KOT' admitted he was
wrong and seems to have gone elsewhere...

Now it is all

And I'm sure it's what some of the nutters around here will suggest...

Oh, like all 'beliefs'...things change. This Nostradamus infatuation
is rather like the old 'Flat Earth' society. That one only disbanded
fairly recently.
Some people just seem to like magic and thrive on 'mystical events'.
What's happening to the group? It's growing up I suppose. God but it
would be a boring place if every message was a long drawn out
dissertation of presumtions.
I'm certain that it would simply die without these fresh and different
topics.
