Maybe you have forgotten this, but (the original) Israeli "Freedom
Fighters" where also know as the first Terrorists of the modern era. [
Or atleast the first group of people, that this term, was ever used to
describe their tactics. ]

The 50s? I'm not sure about the "semantics" of the use of the term
terrorism, but the fact is, the terrorism started in the 20s, not the
50s ... as I've posted before, here it is again:

saw a Zionist soldier covered in dust and blood... Afterwards, I saw
one Hebronite approach a Jewish shoeshine boy, who hid behind a sack in
one of the wall's comers next to Jaffa Gate, and take his box and beat
him over the head. He screamed and began to run, his head bleeding and
the Hebronite left him and returned to the procession... The riot
reached its zenith. All shouted, "Muhammad's religion was born with the
sword"... I immediately walked to the municipal garden... my soul is

1929 Palestine riots

[excerpt] The worst atrocities occurred in Hebron and Safed, where
massacres of Jews occurred. In Hebron, Arab mobs killed 65-68 Jews[1],
wounded 58, and raped women.[2][3]. The lone British policeman in the
town, Raymond Cafferata, was overwhelmed, and the reinforcements he
called for did not arrive for 5 hours (leading to bitter
recriminations).

Cafferata later testified that:

"On hearing screams in a room I went up a sort of tunnel passage
and saw an Arab in the act of cutting off a child's head with a sword.
He had already hit him and was having another cut, but on seeing me he
tried to aim the stroke at me, but missed; he was practically on the
muzzle of my rifle. I shot him low in the groin. Behind him was a
Jewish woman smothered in blood with a man I recognized as a[n Arab]
police constable named Issa Sherif from Jaffa in mufti. He was standing
over the woman with a dagger in his hand. He saw me and bolted into a
room close by and tried to shut me out-shouting in Arabic, "Your Honor,
I am a policeman." ... I got into the room and shot him."

The remaining Jews survived by hiding in their Arab neighbors' houses.
The surviving Jews were evacuated from the town.

The other major centers of violence were in Safed, where 18 Jews were
killed in a brief attack, and in Jerusalem.

During the week of riots, the fatalities were:

* Killed: 133 Jews, 116 Arabs.
* Wounded: 339 Jews, 232 Arabs.

The Jews killed were mostly unarmed civilians killed by Arabs, while
the Arabs killed were mostly rioters killed by British-commanded police

declared a general strike to protest against, and put an end to Jewish
immigration to Palestine. The revolt was driven primarily by Arab
hostility to Britain's tolerance of restricted Jewish immigration and
land purchases which Palestinian Arabs believed was leading them to
becoming a minority in the territory and future nation-state. They
demanded immediate elections which, based on their demographic
majority, would have resulted in a government under their control.

About one month after the general strike started the leadership group
declared a general non-payment of taxes in explicit opposition to
Jewish immigration. In the countryside, armed insurrection started
sporadically, becoming more organised with time. One particular target
of the rebels was the major TAP oil pipeline constructed only a few
years earlier from Kirkuk to Haifa. This was repeatedly bombed at
various points along its length. Other attacks were on railways
(including trains), Jewish settlements, secluded Jewish neighbourhoods
in the mixed cities, and Jews, both individually and in groups. [end

And then, of course, the Grand Mufti later went to Germany to spend the
war alongside Hitler. The Mufti and Hitler made an agreement that they
would go to Palestine after the war and exterminate all the Jews living
there. During the war, when he was not in Bosnia recruiting Muslims for
Hitlers SS, the Mufti lived in the confiscated home of a Jew.
