it glorifies such behavoir, pick up a Women's magazine or watch a
Soap Opera (I know you do) and this type of thing is made to seem the
norm, made out to be a good thing.
There is a book that was just Published, "To Love, Honor, and Betray:
The Sceret Life of Suburban Wives".
Again it portrays this behavoir as a glorious thing, something that
can only bring pleasure and happiness with no consequences.
And you wonder why this kind of thing is on the increase? I don't, and

problems, such as rape induced trauma and a history of sexual abuse as a
child.
I suspect you do not have a woman in your life or you would have found this

By the mid Eighties, Jimmy Swaggart (first cousin to Mickey Gilley and
Jerry Lee Lewis, in case you didn't already know that) had become the
world's richest and arguably its most famous hypocritical huckster.
Swaggart's operation then raked in more than $150,000,000.00 annually --
quite a haul, huh?
Every week, "The Jimmy Swaggart Telecast" attracted 8,000,000 screaming
JAYzus freaks from all over the inbred South -- and other hinterlands.
Yes, Lil' Jimmy had clawed his way up from the bayous of rural,
impoverished Louisiana to the peak of the televangelism racket, and he
now had nothing to do except to savor his unsavory spoils. (He even
bought one of Huey Long's old mansions to display his newly achieved
mega-wealth.) His coffers, like wife Frances' coiffures, just kept
getting bigger and bigger.
A jaded Jimmy soon turned to schaddenfreude (taking distinct pleasure in
the discomfort of others) as his primary source of pleasure. For
example, Swaggart took great joy in 1986 for getting fellow Assemblies
of God minister Marvin Gorman defrocked. (Gorman had conducted an
extramarital affair with one of his adult parishioners, you see.)
Well, the following year, the PTL Ministry of Jim "Weasel" and Tammy
Faye "Racoon Eyes" Bakker collapsed. Swaggart was virtually ecstatic. He
even went on CNN and told Larry King that Bakker had been "a cancer in
the body of Christ." (Nothing quite like cancer epithets to complete an
insult, huh?)
Now, if watching other people in abject misery was Swaggart's favorite
thing, then his next favorite thing was definitely perusing porn and
schtupping hookers in sleazy motels all over the Crescent City. Well,
when the rumors started flying, Ol' Jimmy was doomed. Ironically enough,
it was an embittered Marvin Gorman who nailed him. In 1987, Mistuh
Marvin paid a private detective to take photos of Swaggart with one of
his hookers. (Oh, and by the way, it didn't take Gorman's guy long at
all to get some pretty darned good evidence.)
Gorman tried blackmailing Swaggart, but Jimmy didn't (!) follow through
on the payments. So Marvin turned to the same church elders who had
disgraced him two years prior.
When confronted by the Assemblies of God leadership, Jimmy had no choice
but to confess. He told them that he suffered a lifelong addiction to
porn. (Hey, this was probably no real surprise to them.) All the signs
were there, true -- Swaggart had written an article in 1987 asserting
that "pornography is now considered as addictive as drugs." And over the
years, Swaggart had campaigned for tough anti-porn legislation. (Talk
about cutting off your, uh, nose to spite your face!)
Well, the AoG had no choice but to reprimand him somehow. So they
defrocked him for one year. The next week, Swaggart wound up jest a'
cryin' his eyes out on national television. Honestly, this act had it
all over Garbo in Camille.
In front of cameras and congregation, Swaggart seemed contrite enough.
But he made no specific mention of the nature of his, uh,
transgressions, referring only to some nebulous "moral failure" he had
committed. Maybe this vagueness was deemed necessary per his attorney.
Swaggart's multi-million dollar empire foundered and never recovered.
Three years later, more than 80% of their faithful viewers had stopped
watching the telecast. Donations were way, way down and the ministry had
racked up $4,500,000.00 in debts. But Swaggart was still hanging in
there, even though things couldn't get much worse.
In March 1989, a woman named Catherine Campen gave an interview to
Penthouse magazine, an interview in which she claimed to have had an
extramarital affair with the televangelist. Between July 1987 and
January 1988, she said, she had met up with the preacher on 10 separate
occasions. She mentioned (among other things) beating Swaggart with a
riding crop (but only after Swaggart had convinced her to do it, you see).
Then, in July of 1988, Penthouse ran an exclusive interview with a New
Orleans prostitute, Debra Murphree. She claimed, among other things --
by the way, none of this was ever contested by Jimbo the Mambo Creepo --
that Swaggart had even once inquired whether or not he might have
intercourse with her 9 year old daughter! Here's the excerpt from the
magazine, verbatim:
"Said Murphree, 'He'd ask me if I'd ever let anyone ---- my daughter
when she was that young, and I said, "No, She's only nine years old." He
asked me if she started developing or if she had any hair down there. (
.. . . ) "I can picture my ---- going in and out of a ----- like that,"'
he said."
These horrifying revelations definitely gave a sales and marketing
bonanza to Penthouse magazine and its publisher, Bob Guccione.
Finally, during a preaching tour of California, Swaggart drove his white
Jaguar into the town of Indio. There he propositioned 31-year-old
Rosemary Garcia, who promptly got into Swaggart's Jag. The preacher was
soon pulled over by the cops for driving on the wrong side of the road.
Garcia told a Palm Springs TV news crew that Swaggart had picked her up,
and had then inquired where they might find a motel with in-room porn.
When the reporter had asked why Swaggart had approached her, Garcia
replied: "He asked me for sex. I mean, that's why he stopped me. That's
what I do. I'm a prostitute."
Had anyone still needed proof that Swaggart was an unethical, slimebag,
worthless piece of trash horn-dog, no further convincing was necessary.
Now, for the pièce de la resistance -- on November 10, 2002 Swaggart
denounced the Prophet Muhammad as a "pervert" and a "sex deviant." This
accusation sounds wholly reasonable, of course, but at least a tad
hypocritical for Swaggart -- unless, as he does, you subscribe to the
pot-calling-the-kettle-black school of comparative religion
