X.100
"pompa tam"]
Line 3 - "armées" [Lat. "copia"]
Line 4 - "Lusignans"
Verse translation
The noble empire from England shall be,
For over three hundred years, such pageantry:
Mighty armies passing over land and sea,
Not one of the Lusignans are pleased to see.
No doubt inspired by the legend of King Arthur and the noble knights of
the round table etc, but once again Nostradamus looks to the past to
find a prophecy for the future.
The acquisition of Aquitaine by Henry II of England on 18 May 1152, when
he married Eleanor of Aquitaine, thus inheriting through her all the
land between the Loire and the Pyrenees. The local Lusignan family, who
had hitherto been powerful in the region, were so affronted by this that
they even kidnapped Eleanor for a time in an attempt to win back some of
the territory. However, this 'noble empire' (aka. the Angevin empire)
came to an end on 20 July 1453, when John Talbot, Earl of Shrewsbury,
lost it all at the battle of Châtillon to the ***** of Orleans,
General Daunois. It had thus lasted for 301 years.

Hmmm, one of the easiest quatrain to understand and he messes it
up completely! Let's repair the damage:
*

Line 2 - "beaucoup de pompe" [Lat. "pompa tam"]

*
pempotam = from two Greek words, pan, potamos.
*
*

Line 3 - "armées" [Lat. "copia"]

*
copies = from the Latin copiae.
*
*

Line 4 - "Lusignans"

*
Lusitains = from the Latin for Lusitania, Portugal.
*
*
Reconstructing the now corrected damage, we get:
*
*
Or, for the gallically handicapped:
*
'There shall be a Great Empire from England which shall last more
than three hundred years whose large troops shall cross seas and
lands, a fact which shall not please the Portuguese.'
*
For those who need an explanation: In Nostradamus' days, the
great Empire had been that of the Portuguese (later to be
superseded by Spain's) ; so, the advent of a British Empire can
only displease the Portuguese, because it is the British Empire
which eventually shall put an end to their domination of the
seas.
*
As to the duration of the British Empire, one can date its first
major feat as the crushing of the so-called 'invincible armada'
in the late 16th century, and one of its last gasping imperial
gestures, that of failing to secure the Suez canal by attacking
Egypt via her then proxy, Israel, and with her then ally, France,
to boot Nasser out of office, both episodes happening in less
than 400 years, which makes Nostradamus' timing... perfect!
*
As to the great many troops which Britain shall send to every
continent, another poster had already remarked that the Sun would
not set upon her Empire, which was also true.
*
Bottom line: a perfect prophecy, clear enough for everyone to
understand, except the anonymous British *****-licking dogs of
Peter Lemesurier.
*
Have a nice day, folks!
