How about slowin' it down a bit with a catchy little blues tune! :)
Some of his stuff is okay but he sounds like he's singing into a kazoo
on some of his songs. ;)

Chocolate Jesus
(Tom Waits and Kathleen Brennan)
Don't go to church on Sunday
Don't get on my knees to pray
Don't memorize the books of the Bible
I got my own special way
Bit I know Jesus loves me
Maybe just a little bit more
I fall on my knees every Sunday
At Zerelda Lee's candy store
Well it's got to be a chocolate Jesus
Make me feel good inside
Got to be a chocolate Jesus
Keep me satisfied
Well I don't want no Anna Zabba
Don't want no Almond Joy
There ain't nothing better
Suitable for this boy
Well it's the only thing
That can pick me up
Better than a cup of gold
See only a chocolate Jesus
Can satisfy my soul
(Solo)
When the weather gets rough
And it's whiskey in the shade
It's best to wrap your savior
Up in cellophane
He flows like the big muddy
But that's ok
Pour him over ice cream
For a nice parfait
Well it's got to be a chocolate Jesus
Good enough for me
Got to be a chocolate Jesus
Good enough for me
Well it's got to be a chocolate Jesus
Make me feel good inside
Got to be a chocolate Jesus
Keep me satisfied

(Tom Waits and Kathleen Brennan)
Well I hung on to Mary's stump
I danced with a soldier's glee
With a rum soaked crook
And a big fat laugh
I spent my last dollar on thee
I saw Bill Bones, gave him a yell
Kehoe spiked the nog
With a chain link fence
And a scrap iron jaw
Cookin up a Filipino Box Spring hog
Spider rolled in from
Hollister Burn
With a one-eyed stolen Mare
Donned himself with chicken fat
Sawin on a jaw bone violin there
Kathleen was sittin down
In little reds recovery room
In her criminal underwear bra
I was naked to the waist
With my fierce black hound
And I'm cookin up a Filipino Box Spring Hog
Cookin up a Filipino Box Spring Hog
Cookin up a Filipino Box Spring Hog
Dig a big pit in a dirt alley road
Fill it with madrone and bay
Stinks like hell
And the neighbors complain
Don't give a hoot what they say
Slap that hog
Gotta roll em over twice
Baste him with a sweeping broom
You gotta swat them flies
And chain up the dogs
Cookin up a Filipino Box Spring Hog
Cookin up a Filipino Box Spring Hog
Rattle snake piccata with grapes and figs
Old brown Betty with a yellow wig
Tain't the mince meat filagree
And it ain't the turkey neck stew
And it ain't them bruleed
Okra seeds though she
Made them especially for you
Worse won a prize for her
Bottom black pie
The beans got to thrown to the dogs
Jaheseus Christ I can always
Make room when they're

LOLOLOL!!
Well John, once again my husband turned me on to him.
He has:
LONG GONE
BONE MACHINE
and
MULE VARIATIONS.
We went on 2 hour drive yesterday and I got to know Tom pretty good. I
was looking at the lyrics inside the CD box and thought they were really
different!
He's definitely an interesting dude! His bio says he was born in
California but that can't be right! Those tunes had to have come from
Louisiana!
And I've been meaning to ask you for
awhile, Susan, what was your favorite
story out of Levon's book?
I thoroughly enjoyed the whole book and when I finished I felt like I
knew him and he seems to be a really nice guy.
A SOUTHUN GENTLEMAN if you will. ;)
There were parts that had me in stitches but then at times it was sad
enough to bring tears to your eyes.....Like in the beginning of the
book, they started it at the end...when they found Rick in the bathroom.
:'''(
There were many laughs like Robbie buying all those guitars and
reselling them at a profit because he had played them. Levon said there
must have been a hundred of those circulating (if I remember
correctly)....lol! :)
And this part blew me away!
I'll never forget this quote when they were with Bob Dylan and the crowd
was about to rip 'em to shreds...
"So, storming the bastions of folkster purity, we kept playing "Thin
Man" until things cooled down."
"Storming the bastions of folkster purity"!
Classic! ;)
And I had to laugh when I heard what he said when Neil Diamond showed up
for the set of "The Last Waltz"...."WTF was Neil Diamond doing there?"
LOL!!
That's exactly what WE said when WE watched it. "Neil Diamond? WTF??" ;)
I also didn't know about the rights to the songs....how that all went
down and that really is a shame. :(
But on a happier note, he really held my interest telling about his
childhood back in Arkansas and about Muddy Waters and all the other
"Late-Greats".
I couldn't put it down until I had finished it and I'm better to have
read it - thanks. :)

Oh fer sure, the guy's brilliant. Wrote tunes made famous by others. "Ol
'55" by the Eagles. I think Sprigsteen did "Jersey Girl". Never was a
Springsteen fan. Tom's version of "Jersey Girl" is on "Heartattack and
Vine". It's great.
He's definitely an interesting dude! His bio says he was born in

I used to see girls just smile this really sly smile and gush, "He's just
sooooooo sleazy!!!!!!"
He used to tour with Bonnie Raitt and she'd talk about how she and her band
would go stay at the Ritz-Carlton but he'd insist on being dropped at some
flea-bag hotel in the slums somewhere.
And I've been meaning to ask you for
awhile, Susan, what was your favorite
story out of Levon's book?
I thoroughly enjoyed the whole book and when I finished I felt like I

A SOUTHUN GENTLEMAN if you will. ;)
Most definitely.
There were parts that had me in stitches but then at times it was sad

Dig for the documentary done by ABC Video simply called, "The Band". Found
it for rent at Hollywood Video. Interviews with everyone except Richard, of
course, and Robbie. You really get to see more inside Levon. Very moving.
Gives a lot of insight and you'll end up with even a higher regard for this
fine man. Some great concert footage including "Life Is a Carnival" on SNL.
I've been listening to "Rock of Ages" a lot lately. Recorded live at the
New York Conservatory of Music New Year's Eve 1975 I think.
There were many laughs like Robbie buying all those guitars and

He's definitely got the insight and a strong satirical sense to go with it.
And I had to laugh when I heard what he said when Neil Diamond showed up
for the set of "The Last Waltz"...."WTF was Neil Diamond doing there?"

Hahahahahaha!!!!!!!!
I also didn't know about the rights to the songs....how that all went

I guess the guy with guitaritis was a real cutthroat businessman.
"Rick, what's this game called?"
A crashing of billiard balls heard over a black screen.
Rick Danko speaks, "It's called cutthroat."
"What's the object of the game?"
"The object of the game is to knock everyone else's balls off the table and
keep as many of yours on as possible."
Interesting way to start a movie. :-)
But on a happier note, he really held my interest telling about his
childhood back in Arkansas and about Muddy Waters and all the other
"Late-Greats".
Superb.
My favorite story, and it IS hard to pick just one, was where the guy that
owned the Arkansas roadhouse wrote The Hawks another bad check. Levon and t
he Hawk decided to finally get even not just for themselves but for every
other band that this guy had ripped off. Got 15 gallons of gasoline,
carefully carried out Leon Russell's new equipment, doused the bar and lit a
match. Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid all over again. Blew 'em down on
the ground, singed their hair and eyebrows, dazed them so completely that
they were still fumbling around in the parking lot when the cops showed up.
The cops were so happy to see the place finally gone they thanked them and
invited them to go on their way. Loved it.
I couldn't put it down until I had finished it and I'm better to have

from
Swordfishtrombones
(you have to hear his performance to really appreciate this)
Frank's Wild Years
Well Frank settled down in the Valley
and hung his wild years
on a nail that he drove through
his wife's forehead
he sold used office furniture
out there on San Fernando Road
and assumed a $30,000 loan
at 15 1/4 % and put down payment
on a little two bedroom place
his wife was a spent piece of used jet trash
made good bloody marys
kept her mouth shut most of the time
had a little Chihuahua named Carlos
that had some kind of skin disease
and was totally blind. They had a
thoroughly modern kitchen
self-cleaning oven (the whole bit)
Frank drove a little sedan
they were so happy
One night Frank was on his way home
from work, stopped at the liquor store,
picked up a couple Mickey's Big Mouths
drank 'em in the car on his way
to the Shell station, he got a gallon of
gas in a can, drove home, doused
everything in the house, torched it,
parked across the street, laughing,
watching it burn, all Halloween
orange and chimney red then
Frank put on a top forty station
got on the Hollywood Freeway
headed north
Never could stand that dog

He's an amazing guy. Another one of those sort of obscure national
treasures. Has sort of a cult following. Serious musicians and artsy types
love him. He's even done some acting. Played behind a counter in one of
Francis Ford Coppola's movies (Rumblefish?) with Nicolas Cage and Mickey
Roarke. I think I saw him in an uncredited role (prisoner) in The Shawshank
Redemption.

I'll have to give them a try. Ever since Napster was pulled, I
haven't had any way to find new music to buy. I used to buy 4-5 CDs
a week, now I'm lucky if I buy one a month ..... :-(

Give Limewire a shot ... runs on Java, not sure about a Linux ver.
I had that for a while - too much spyware.

Yeah, I'm seeing a couple of other things, too. OTOH, I've just been
informed by my kids that BitTorrent is not infested with bad
packets/viruses like the Gnutella/WinMX stuff. I guess BT drops any
sources that send bad files.
But first, I need to set up a RAID so I don't lose stuff. Just went
through another hard drive. (Seems like we go through them like water
around here, but it's really only one a year or so...)
Or, maybe I should rip everything I've got, record it in a database, and
then look to see what holes I've got in my collection. No, wait - that
sounds like ... work! Ew!

It depends on how you want to set it up. You can get a RAID card or
just get a big HD (with software to manage it), or both. Or, you can do
it manually onto another HD (not recommended, because we all tend to
slack off on the manual backups ...)

The interview was actually a test to be a grunt in the upcoming census
.... I'd be a 'ground troop' in our new little town here ( it's real
purdy in the summer here too! ). The money's good ( Federal )and the
hours flexible ( Gov't ). The test went well ... cut it close time-wise
but they were typical questions for filling out and verifying info on a
census form ... every type of person in a househould ... working,
non-working, in school, sick mother-in-law, working son on compensation
with broken leg, etc etc ... with a chart and related code for each
item. Cripes ...
Spent most of the time double-checking answers ... but I think I passed.
I'll find out in a couple of weeks.

That's a bit too simplistic.
RAID 0
Data is striped across disks. Extra speed, no safety, no loss of
capacity. Two disks or more.
RAID 1
Data is mirrored. Safe but wastes 50% of the drive space. Two disks
or more in increments of two.
RAID 5
Data is striped with parity. Good combo of speed and safety with less
wastage but requires three disks minimum. Designed to withstand a single
disk failure without losing data or access to data.
RAID 10 levels 0 & 1 combined.
Data is striped across 2 disks (minimum) *and* mirrored across the
same number of disks as are being striped. The speed of RAID 0 combined
with the safety (and waste) of RAID 1.
There are other levels that aren't so widely used.
I say simplistic because RAID 0 is widely used for performance but
includes no safety whatsoever.

Yes, but sufficient for basic explanation on apn.
RAID 0
Data is striped across disks. Extra speed, no safety, no loss of

Oops, forgot about that one. I was thinking in terms of backups only.
RAID 1
Data is mirrored. Safe but wastes 50% of the drive space. Two disks or

Data is striped with parity. Good combo of speed and safety with less

Yes, but that wouldn't be used in a redundancy/backup mode - that's an
Anti-Redundancy mode! ;-)

Yeah sorta.. it starts off as 'Heartbreaker' and then segues into
'Heartbreak hotel'.
You can listen to a (poor quality) sample here on Amazon...

I saw them at the Edinburgh Festival years ago. You've got this singer
