Yushchenko to defend the Ukrainian language in Crimea?
President's representative in Crimea Volodymyr Kulish will advise
Yushchenko to terminate the decision of Crimean Parliament about
conduct of local referendum on accordance of status of the second state
language to the Russian language, as he declared commenting on the
decision, made by Verkhovny Council of Crimea.
Kulish reminded that in accordance with article 137 of Constitution of
Ukraine the President can suspend the validity of a normative and legal
act of Crimean Parliament if it does not meet the Basic law of Ukraine.
On Wednesday Verkhovny Council of Crimea has passed a resolution about
conduct of local consultative referendum by initiative of native
inhabitants, which includes the question "Do you support the
accordance of the status of the second state language to the Russian
language."
This decision will be appealed by Prosecutor's Office of the Crimea
.
